APPLICATIONS OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

The wide availability of powerful computing and telecommunications systems in modern society has led to the widespread use of IT in the production process and the development of new “smart” products:
Industrial Informatics comes after the industrial automation, to improve the quantity and quality of the production process, which is essential in the current context of rising competition at international level.
Many of the traditional products (historic instruments, automobiles, home appliances, telephones, toys, etc.) are replaced by modern “smart” with integrated processors and software.
To explore new forms of employment, alternative education methods and supplementary capabilities in providing medical services. Areas such as e-learning, telecommuting and telemedicine respectively, are the high-tech sectors of telematics applications in modern society.
The increasing needs for higher education have led to the decentralization and strengthening of regional universities. Inside this frame, telematics applications in education (distance learning, videoconferencing, electronic connection to international libraries etc.) facilitate the exchange of knowledge among institutions, enabling the use of teaching staff and other resources are located away. Moreover distance learning greatly facilitate the continuing and lifelong education and training and is necessary for many categories of workers because of the rapid change in the means of production.
The social pressure to find alternative employment ally new technologies and the spread in the use of computers allows the development of innovative methods, especially in the services sector. The ability of developing of new forms of work with the use of information technology became the subject of under investigation of telecommuting.
The accumulation of specialized high-level medical resources and modern diagnostic machines in large urban centers and the equipment of the central hospitals with the latest technology have created an unequal situation for the residents of the region. So the decentralization is discouraged and urbanization is supported. Telemedicine can allow the use of both human and technical medical potential, wherever it is, without necessarily requiring the movement of the region’s patients.
Based on the previous, the Sector of Applied Informatics TRC EMTh has the following  objectives:

  • to provide technical support to existing or being set up industrial units in order to develop and improve the information systems concerning the production lines themselves, the quality of processes and products enhancing thus competitiveness;
  • the cooperation with industry for the design and development of new “smart” products;
  • the study and development of graduate programs and training programs using telematics, in collaboration with other European Higher Education Institutes;
  • the study and development of forms of teleworking in the services and public administration sectors for the god of the citizens of the region;
  • the study and development of telemedicine networks aiming at strengthening the medical service network in the region and
  • the provision of technical support for telematics applications to both private and public initiatives.
